Man builds 20-foot snowman

This winter is driving people to extremes.

WEST WYOMING, Pa., Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Dave Granteed, 19, decided to make the best of this harsh winter and his spare time by building a 20-foot tall snowman.

Granteed worked for 5 days for 13 hours a day to complete the snowman. After the first ball he said, "on the second ball we did everything from scaffolding to ladders. Third ball I actually made steps up the back of the snowman." The head was left hollow and Granteed climbs up there to watch the reactions of passerbys.

Despite the fact that the area has been pounded by snow like much of the northeast, Granteed actually ran out and had snow trucked in for him to finish and maintain the snowman.

Maintenance of the snowman requires Granteed adding snow every day and putting water on it every morning so it remains icy and solid.

His goal is to finish the snowman before he turns 20 on Valentine's day.
