SOCHI, Russia, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Johnny Weir's professional figure skating career was marked by an outrageous and campy sense of style that paved the way for his own docu-series and appearances on shows like RuPaul's Drag Race. Now in his first turn as an Olympics commentator for NBC, the openly gay 29-year-old has shown no signs of letting up -- even in a country with anti-gay laws that prohibit gay "propaganda."
Weir's statement necklaces, gravity defying hair and bold suits are the talk of Sochi, and now we know where he gets his inspiration.
"I decided to go more of Stanley Tucci’s character from The Hunger Games," Weir told Philadelphia magazine. "I’m trying to stay between the lines of Johnny on Skating with the Stars and the rest of the NBC men’s family in Brooks Brothers."
He said NBC is comfortable with his "crazy dress sense," which is fully on display on air and on his Instagram page.
