DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- The developer of the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa, is threatening to shut off the elevators and air conditioning if renters do not pay fees.
Emaar Properties has already rescinded the privileges of some of the renters due to the unpaid service fees of $25,000. They renters were cut off from the gym, pool, tennis courts, and garage. With fees still unpaid, Emaar is threatening to turn off the elevators and air conditioning in the building.
The skyscraper has thousands of stairs and the windows do not open, which could be dangerous in the blazing Dubai heat.
One problem is that middlemen landlords often use non-payment tactics because they believe the $25,000 service fees are too high. One tenant said, "We view it as a win that we can use the elevators but it's best to move soon."
