SOCHI, Russia, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- After a review of the official times, the assumed silver winner ends up winning gold in the men's 500m speed skating.

When the racers finished, it seemed that Jan Smeekens had won the gold. When the official times were adjusted, it was determined that Michel Mulder had won by 1/100th of a second. An eye blink is 1/10th of a second, ten times slower than Mulder's margin of victory.

Mulder won with a time of 1 minute and 9.31 seconds, and Smeekens finished with 1 minute 9.32 seconds. The podium sweep put the Netherlands at the top of the medal count and tied with Norway with seven medals.
