REDMOND, Wash., Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Bill Gates answered questions on Reddit about his return to day-to-day operations at Microsoft, saying that he will advise the new CEO Nadella on connected devices and incorporating Microsoft software across these devices.

Gates, a regular redditor, conducted an AMA (Ask Me Anything) live question and answer session, and fielded questions about his new role at Microsoft. He said he would help Nadella develop the vision for the company rather than get into the daily intricacies.

“I make sure we pick ambitious scenarios and that we have a strong architecture to deliver on them. I encourage good work (hopefully),” Gates said.

An array of questions were thrown at Gates, ranging from his philanthropic work with the Bill and Melinda gates Foundation, to whether he had considered artificially prolonging his life. The answer to the latter was "Other people think about that but I wouldn't want to extend my last few years unless that is happening for most people."

A concern for many following his re-entry into the daily operations of Microsoft is his overbearing personality and possible influence on Nadella's work. Gates did say that in his younger days he had energy and naiveté on his side, but over the years he has mellowed. He also said he would devote two-thirds of his time to his foundation and the rest will be spent helping Microsoft on product development.

He was honest about not knowing many of the games on the Xbox, saying that his son was the go-to person for that. But he said he did enjoy playing the sports-based games with his family and that in one he "threw the javelin very very far!"

As with many of these sessions, there are some random, maybe inane, questions posed to the subject and it was no different this time. Redditor 'bizzyjay' asked Gates if he could jump over a chair much like he had done in an television interview many years ago. Gates replied in the negative, but said he can still jump over trash cans, just not full-sized ones.

"Be careful - it can hurt if you don't succeed," he added.
