WASHINGTON, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- While a WhiteHouse.gov petition to deport Justin Bieber awaits the administration's official response, first lady Michelle Obama has her own thoughts about the 19-year-old Canadian's string of bad behavior.

Asked what she would do if she were Bieber's mother, Pattie Mallette, Obama said she would keep close to her son.

“I would pull him close,” Obama told Univision. “I don’t know if it would be advice as much as action. I would be very present in his life right now. And I would be probably with him a good chunk of the time, just there to talk, to figure out what’s going on in his head, to figure out who’s in his life and who’s not, you know.”

“I found that to be the case with my kids,” she said of Malia and Sasha. “They just want you near, you know -- they want that advice from a parent. They want to see you on a daily basis, you know, because the thing is he’s still a kid. He’s still growing up. So, I would pull him close.”

Bieber was arrested twice last month, on Jan. 23 for drunk driving and drag racing in Miami and on Jan. 29 for the alleged assault of a limousine driver.
