NEW YORK, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- George Clooney has a legendary sense of humor, so we knew he wouldn't be too offended by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's Golden Globes joke about his penchant for younger women.

"Gravity is nominated for best film: It’s the story about how George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age," Fey quipped at the ceremony last month.

But it wasn't long before Clooney attempted revenge.

While promoting the Monuments Men at a Sirius Town Hall event with Matt Damon on Thursday, the 52-year-old actor admitted to pranking the women, with a little help from his co-star.

Fey and Poehler also delivered a Globes joke comparing Damon to a "garbage man," so Clooney obtained stationary with Damon's name on it and mailed a fake letter to the comedians.

“It says, ‘Look, it sounds hypocritical because I laughed at jokes about George and Leo, but that's sort of what people think about them,” Clooney said. “But when you call me a garbage man it just seems like low-hanging fruit. It seems like an easy joke. I don’t want an apology or anything else. I just want you to know that my kid now calls me ‘the garbage man.'"

Fey and Poehler must have figured out the joke, because they mailed Damon two large flower baskets with two notes. As Damon explained to David Letterman during his Wednesday night Late Show appearance, the first note apologized profusely to Damon for the joke. The second, however, was a little less conciliatory.

If your note is part of some George Clooney prank, as I very strongly suspect it is, you A-list amateurs are going to have to step it the f*** up. We are not some easily confused starlets here. We are grown-ass, professional comedians. Please accept this fruit as a token of our sincerity. Best wishes, Elizabeth Tina Fey, Amy 'Boston' Poehler.

Though the women weren't fooled by his first prank, Clooney said he has bigger plans for them.

“That’s the appetizer and what’s coming now, the main course, is pretty brutal," he said at the Sirius Town Hall.
