Julia Mancuso shows off toned physique, talks mental aspect of skiing

SOCHI, Russia, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Olympic skier Julia Mancuso showed off her toned body in a new spread for GQ magazine.

The 29-year-old alpine skier opened up about her lucky underwear and why she wasn't impressed to have won any of her three Olympic medals in her interview for the men's magazine.

“It is not a shock to me when I have a good race,” Mancuso told GQ. “I started to tell people I'd just worn my lucky underwear.”

Speaking of underwear, after earning the gold medal in the giant slalom at the 2006 Winter Olympics and two silver medal in both downhill and combined categories at the 2010 Winter Olympics, the skier designed her very own underwear line called "Kiss My Tiara."

While she did not specify if she'd be wearing a pair from her line when she competes in Sochi this year, Manuco did tell CBS News that they felt "so good on your body."

"Getting into underwater training has helped a lot with mental training … you have to really know your limits and then believe you can push yourself to that limit," she said.

But the right underwear is not the only thing that helps her win medals.

"At this point in my career, I believe [skiing] is 99 percent mental," she explained. "I think the training and working on equipment has a lot to do with the mental aspect."
