Pakistani Taliban offers security for negotiators

The Tahreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has initiated peace talks with the government in the areas under the group's control.

ISLAMABAD, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- The Pakistani Taliban has offered security to government negotiators for peace talks in the areas under the Taliban's control.

TTP spokesperson Shahidullah Shahid said in a statement that the political council of the Taliban would guide the five-member committee nominated for peace talks with the government, and went on to say that the Taliban sincerely supports the peace talks.

The TTP announced Sunday that a committee of senior political and religious leaders have been assigned to mediate the talks with the government negotiators.
