Moscow school shooting leaves two dead

Russian authorities reported a fatal school shooting in Moscow Monday that killed two adults and injured at least one police officer. The high-school shooter, who held 20 students hostage, is in custody and all hostages were released.

MOSCOW, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- A high-school student shot and killed a teacher and a police officer at a Moscow school around noon local time on Monday.

According to the Russian Ministry of Interior, the student opened fire at School No. 263 in Moscow's eastern district. In addition to the two killed, a second police officer was injured. The shooter is in custody.

The shooter, armed with a rifle, maneuvered past a security guard, who then alerted authorities. According to state media, he held 20 students hostage. The Investigative Committee of Russia said that the hostage taking occurred inside a biology classroom. "On his way to the class the shooter injured one of the teachers who died later. ... The police officers arrived to the school. When they entered the building the shooter opened a gun fire, injured one and killed another." All of the hostages were released.
