Barry Gibb to Justin Bieber: 'You're heading for a brick wall'

NEW YORK, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- From one pop star to another...

Barry Gibb has some advice for Justin Bieber, the Canadian singer facing drunk driving charges in Miami and assault charges in Toronto.

Gibb, who came to fame as a member of The Bee Gees with his brothers Maurice and Robin, spoke to CNN anchor Piers Morgan on Wednesday. He said the early death of his brother, teen idol Andy Gibb, should serve as a cautionary tale for other young people in the music business.

"Well, what I see with Justin Bieber is sort of what I see with Andy, you know," said Gibb, now 67.

Andy Gibb died at age 30 after years struggling with depression and substance abuse.

"You're heading for a brick wall. And that's a shame, because this is a great talent. This kid's got great gifts, you know," Gibb added. "I just think it's time to grow up. It's time to grow up -- all these young girls love you, be a good example."

Gibb also said that performers have to deal with people they can't really trust, "people around you that just want to have a party and live off what it is that you're getting attention for."

"I think that's the problem. It's always the problem," Gibb said.

Gibb isn't the only person of note sharing his thoughts on Bieber's downward spiral. Toronto Mayor Rob Ford defended the singer during a radio interview on Wednesday.

"He’s 19 years old guys, think back to when you were 19, you know," Ford said.
