HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Flavor Flav, real name William Jonathan Drayton, Jr., pled not guilty to speeding charges before a court in Hempstead, N.Y., on Tuesday.
The 54-year-old Public Enemy rapper and television personality was arrested for speeding on the way to his mother's funeral Jan. 9. Officers then discovered that he had 16 license suspensions for unpaid speeding tickets and marijuana possession.
In court on Tuesday, Flav's lawyer argued that the rapper had since "cleared up and rectified" his suspensions.
"I'm hoping that the courts would have mercy," he told reporters after the hearing. "I'm hoping they would have a heart and dismiss it because of the circumstances."
Last week, Flav offered driving advice to another alleged speeder, Justin Bieber, who was arrested for drunk driving and drag racing in Miami.
