Back in December, the 53-year-old celebrity cook testified on behalf of the prosecution in a case against her two former assistants, Elisabetta and Francesca Grillo, who were acquitted on charges of defrauding Lawson and her ex-husband Charles Saatchi. She admitted to using cocaine on several occasions when her first husband, John Diamond, was dying of cancer.
"I have to be honest, I have smoked the odd joint," she said of her marijuana use. "I found it made an intolerable situation tolerable."
Scotland Yard said late last month that they would review possible charges against Lawson, before "determining an appropriate way forward."
"There are serious public interest concerns about the message any prosecution would send out to potential witnesses and victims in the future," a Scotland Yard rep said in a statement Monday. "Whilst witnesses clearly cannot simply admit to any offense under oath without consequences, this has to be balanced with the requirement for victims and witnesses to tell the truth. Further police activity may deter victims from being candid with police and in court for fear of future investigation."
