The 17-year-old starlet, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O'Connor, beat out favorites Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, Sara Bareilles and Katy Perry with her hit summer track "Royals," and during her acceptance speech she made sure to congratulate her fellow nominees for always being an inspiration for her.
"Well hello. This is the one thing that I did not expect the most about tonight," she said after accepting her Grammy. "So thank you so much I think mostly to Bruno, to Katy, to Sarah, to Justin I have been so inspired by all of your vocal work at some point in my life so, thank you."
The singer, who released her extended play debut, The Love Club EP, November 22, also earned the Song of the Year prize for "Royals." The Kiwi singer performed her acclaimed track during Sunday's award show.
