Jan. 24 (UPI) -- French First Lady Valerie Trierweiler reportedly plans to travel to India on a humanitarian trip, against the advice of the Elysée Palace.

While in Mumbai, the first lady will visit a shantytown and attend a charity gala dinner, according to Le Parisien.

Trierweiler's status as first lady is, according to French President François Hollande, uncertain. Hollande addressed reporters' questions at a press conference in January, announcing that he would clarify whether Trierweiler was still the first lady of France before his planned February 11 trip to Washington, D.C.

Distress over news of an affair prompted the first lady to admit herself to a hospital on January 10, where she remained for more than a week.
