Octomom Nadya Suleman due in court

Nadya Suleman, better known as "Octomom," will appear in court Friday on charges she committed welfare fraud by failing to disclose thousands of dollars of income.

Suleman, who has 14 children, filed for welfare aid in January 2013 and received $16,481 from CalWorks financial assistance program and CalFresh food aid program in the first half of last year.

“While applying for public aid, the mother of 14 children allegedly failed to disclose that she was also getting checks for personal appearances and residuals from videos," the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said. "She allegedly failed to report the extra income she earned between Jan. 1, 2013, and June 30, 2013."

She has been charged with one count of aid by misrepresentation and two counts of perjury by false application for failing to disclose nearly $30,000 in income.

If convicted, Suleman could face up to five years and eight months in prison.
