Kate Upton not dating ex Justin Verlander in spite of recent outing together

Despite rumors, Kate Upton and Justin Verlander are not back together.

Sources close to the Sports Illustrated cover girl told E! News that while the two were spotted together watching the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team battle the Tampa Bay Lightning at Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia Saturday night they are definitely not a couple.

The insider explained that Upton simply wanted to "be there" for The Detroit Tigers' pitcher before he underwent core muscle repair surgery Wednesday.

Verlander will have to undergo six weeks of physical therapy to be ready to play at the beginning of the 2014 season according to an announcement made by the The Detroit Tigers. He requires surgery after suffering an injury during his off-season conditioning program in December.

Upton and Verlander first ignited rumors that they were dating after going on a Caribbean vacation together in 2013. However, the 21-year-old model later debunked the rumors.

Upton ended her 6-month-relationship with Dancing With the Stars alum Maksim Chmerkovskiy in December.
