Young died at her home in Columbia, South Carolina where she had been receiving hospice care for the past two months.

On Thursday Jan. 9, wrestling columnist Mike Mooneyham, of the Charleston, S.C. Post and Courier incorrectly reported that Young had died after being taken off life support. The publication later corrected the post, explaining she was in grave condition instead.

Known as The Amazing Mae Young, she joined the WWE at the age of 15. Young was crowned "Miss Royal Rumble" in 2000 at the age of 77 and eight years later she became the third woman to ever be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
