Jan. 14 (UPI) -- U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry presented an usual diplomatic gift to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a meeting in Paris on Monday -- two large Idaho potatoes.

Kerry explained his produce gift for Lavrov as a follow-up to a comment made by the Russian official about the Idaho potato the last time the two leaders met.

Lavrov called the potatoes "impressive."

Kerry and Lavrov were in Paris for preparation meetings ahead of the late January Geneva II Middle East peace conference on Syria.
