Joseph Gordon-Levitt launches HitRecord TV show

Jan. 9 (UPI) -- When he's not writing, directing and starring in critically acclaimed films, Joseph Gordon-Levitt runs hitRECord, a online collaborative production company for artists, writers, musicians and other creatives to share, edit and remix their work.

Gordon-Levitt, who launched the project with his late brother back in 2005, is now taking his unconventional model to a more conventional medium -- television. HitRecord on TV is an eight-episode, half-hour variety show that features crowd-sourced animation, story-telling, videos and music related to a specific theme.

The first episode, which you can already watch on YouTube, showcases the work of 426 contributing artists -- including actress Elle Fanning -- around the theme of "The Number One."

"I'm deeply proud of this show, and I think you're realllllly gonna like it," Gordon-Levitt captioned the video. "Honestly, making this thing together with all the artists from around the world in our hitRECord community has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life so far."

HitRecord on TV appears on the cable channel Pivot on January 18 at 10 p.m. EST.
