Former Miss Venezuela Mónica Spear and her ex-husband were shot and killed Monday after their car broke down in Caracas.
Spear, 29, and her ex, Henry Thomas Berry, 39, were traveling with their daughter in a rented Toyota Corolla on the Puerto Cabello-Valencia motorway when they were involved in a small crash that left them stranded. They locked themselves in the car when they saw armed assailants approaching, but then gunmen opened fire, killing them both.
Maya, 5, was shot in the leg and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Spear was crowned Miss Venezuela in 2004, and went on to star in several soap operas. She married Berry, an Irish businessman who moved to Venezuela as a child, in 2008 and gave birth to Maya a few months later. After their divorce, the couple stayed close and continued to vacation together.
