Some fans are wondering why Elle magazine chose to crop Mindy Kaling's body out of her cover photo.

Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Mindy Kaling's Elle cover looks a little different than the three others that were released for the magazine's "Women in TV" issue. While Amy Poehler, Allison Williams and Zooey Deschanel grace their covers with full-body shots -- and in color -- Kaling is featured up close and in black and white.

Elle faced similar criticism back in 2010, when it featured a close-cropped cover image of actress Gabourey Sidibe, and again last year, with Melissa McCarthy.

Kaling responded to the controversy via Twitter on Tuesday:

"I love my @ELLEmagazine cover. It made me feel glamorous & cool," she added. "And if anyone wants to see more of my body, go on thirteen dates with me."

Elle also stood by the cover.

“Mindy looks sexy, beautiful and chic,” the magazine said in a statement. “We think it is a striking and sophisticated cover and are thrilled to celebrate her in our Women in TV Issue.”
