Dec. 29 (UPI) -- June Emerson spent Friday at Manhattan Beach in California with her family, where she snapped several photos of her 12-year-old son Quinn surfing with his friend. But it wasn't until her journey home that Emerson looked over her photos and saw a large, shark-like creature lurking near the two boys.
“I’m not sure what it was,” she told CBS Los Angeles. “But it definitely scared me when I thought it might be a shark.”
“Many local surfers and lifeguards have seen this and believe it to be a shark,” Emerson told KTLA. “Of course, I told my kids it was dolphin, as we live at the beach and are in the waters here almost daily.”
Though dolphins are often spotted at Manhattan Beach, there are occasionally sightings of great white sharks.
