Jersey Shore star Snooki sued over Zantrex diet pills that allegedly don't work

A class action suit has been filed in Federal Court against Jersey Shore star Snooki, aka Nicole Polizzi, alleging that the Zantrex brand of diet pills that she helps to market don't work.

In the lawsuit, lead plaintiff Ashley Brady also lists Basic Research LLC, Zoller Laboratories and three company officers as defendants.

According to Brady, she purchased a bought a bottle of Zantrex-3 in 2010 because the label claimed that the drug would provide "546% More Weight Loss Than America's #1 Selling Ephedra-Based Diet Pill," and that she would be able to lose weight "without diet and exercise."

Brady says the pills combine caffeine and herbs in a mixture that is "unsafe and ineffective for weight control or appetite suppression."

"Snooki represents ... that Zantrex is safe and effective for weight loss and fat loss," the lawsuit states. "These representations are false, misleading and deceptive because ... Zantrex is neither effective nor safe for weight loss nor fat loss."

The lawsuit says Basic Research promotes itself as "one of the largest 'nutraceutical' companies in the United States, with annual sales revenues in excess of $50 million."

Brady is looking for class certification, an injunction and damages for fraud, breach of warranty, unjust enrichment, negligent misrepresentation, and violations of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. [Courthouse News]
