Miley Cyrus addressed her breakup from Hunger Game star Liam Hemsworth during an interview with Barbara Walters.

The 21-year-old singer met with Walters to record a segment for a news special that will air on ABC Wednesday titled, Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013. While opening up to the host, Cyrus attributed her breakup to being too young and having lost herself in the 23-year-old Australian actor.

“I was so scared of ever being alone, and I think, conquering that fear, this year, was actually bigger than any other transition that I had, this entire year,” she told Walters. “I don’t ever want to have to need someone again, where you feel like, without them, you can’t be yourself.”

Cyrus, 21, and Hemsworth, 23, were together for four years and announced their engagement in March 2012, and while the "Wrecking Ball" singer wouldn't take any of it back, she admits that 19 is a young age to get engaged.

“I don’t think I realized what 19 truly is, and I got engaged at 19, and I definitely wouldn’t change being engaged,” she said. “It was so fun wearing a fat rock for a few years. But now, I just feel like I can actually be happy. I wait for those moments of silence, when I’m just at my house, by myself.”

Many tracks on Cyrus' latest album Bangerz, speak of a broken relationship, but Cyrus said that one in particular she wrote with Hemsworth in mind. Asked about a part of the song that goes “I was crazy, thinking you were mine. It was all just a lie,” Cyrus explained she wasn't being that literal.

“I don’t think there was any, any lies,” she said.
