Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Adrien "The Problem" Broner was defeated for the first time in his career Saturday night by Marcos Maidana for the WBA welterweight title in San Antonio.
Maidana won a unanimous decision after knocking Broner down twice at the Alamodome, USA Today reported.
Broner was hurt badly in the second round of the fight and went down for the first time in his career after a left from Maidana. Broner went down again in the eighth round, when Maidana also head-butted his opponent, resulting in the loss of a point.
"The truth is, I've never fought anyone like [Broner], and it was a great fight," Maidana said. "The plan was to fight any way I could do it, and I won because of that."
I'm "OK," Broner said after the fight. "I'm still the three-time world champion in three different weight classes. Tonight, Maidana was just the better man, but we fought a hell of a fight. I hope the fans got what they deserved. ... I'm still going to live like we won the fight. I'm still going to party."
