Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Even Adam Levine was caught off guard by his own protege's emotional performance of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" during Monday night's episode of The Voice.
Tessanne Chin, one of Levine's three remaining contestants, stood out among the show's last five competitors with a vocally outstanding version of the classic Simon and Garfunkel song.
That was crazy what just happened," Levine said of her performance. "I think that is probably the most flawless and graceful performance I've ever heard on this show."
"I've never been speechless on the show before, but I was amazed," he said.
Chin told E! News backstage that a text message from her sister had "sidelined" her. She used the song as a kind of therapy.
"I got a text from my sister…we lost someone we know," she said. "It just kind of sidelined me."
"It was therapy and that's music of me, it's not just being on a stage singing. It's my way; it's my coping mechanism," she added.
