President Obama shook hands with Cuban President Raul Castro today at Nelson Mandela's memorial service in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Dec. 10 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama shook hands today with Cuban President Raul Castro at the memorial service for former South African President Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg.

The hand shake between the leader of the free world and the communist leader occurred as Obama made his way to the podium at FNB stadium to deliver his speech about Mandela's life and legacy.

Relations between the U.S. and Cuba have been strained relations since the Cold War.
