Dec. 9 (UPI) -- In an interview with the BBC, former South African President Nelson Mandela's daughter described the last moments before his death at the age of 95 on December 5, 2013.
Makaziwe, Mandela's daughter, said that the anti-apartheid hero died surrounded by family. "Until the last moment he had us, you know... The children were there, the grandchildren were there, Graca was there, so we are always around him and even at the last moment, we were sitting with him on Thursday the whole day."
She said that her father was happy with his family gathered around him one last time: "it was a wonderful time, if you can say the process of death is wonderful. But Tata [Nelson Mandela] had a wonderful time, because we were there."
A large memorial service will take place tomorrow at FNB stadium in Johannesburg. South African President Jacob Zuma announced on Friday the funeral plans to honor the life and legacy of Mandela; those plans can be found here.
