Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Disney's Frozen put an end to Catching Fire's two weeks at the top of the American box office, and moved into the no. 1 slot with $31.6 million. This weekend's take in brings the animated flick's two-week total to $134.3 million.
But Catching Fire didn't fare too badly. The second Hunger Games installment pulled in a hefty $27 million in its third week of release, bringing its three-week domestic gross to $336 million and its international gross to $673 million.
Both Frozen and Catching Fire broke Thanksgiving weekend records -- the former had the best-ever Thanksgiving opening, while the dystopian Hunger Games epic hauled in the most money for a film over the five-day weekend.
Christian Bale's Out of the Furnace, however, performed far worse than the more family-friendly fare, taking in third place with only $5.3 million.
