Dec. 6 (UPI) -- The US National Reconnaissance Office is known to have interesting mascots and logos made for the launch of their satellites, and their latest is an Earth-devouring octopus.

The agency, which is in charge of launching the country's spy satellites, launched a secret satellite Dec. 5, and the octopus was revealed as its mission logo.

The logo, present on a release announcing the launch, was put in public display by James Clapper, Director of National Intelligence. Clapper tweeted about the launch and put a picture of the ominous-looking octopus on the official DNI account.

The agency's past mission logos include a devil, Odin and an Eye of Providence.
