Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Fleece-lined Ugg boots were an Australian staple for decades, worn predominately around the house as slippers. But they became a fashionable accessory in the early-to-mid 2000s -- popularized by celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson -- until everyone decided that they were probably best left indoors, right?
The Huffington Post noticed over the weekend that Ugg boots were Google's most-searched fashion item around midday on Black Friday, above The North Face and Nike Air Jordan Retro sneakers, meaning that some shoppers still haven't gotten enough of the sheepskin classic.
Though Uggs are no longer favored by fashionable types, people keep buying them for comfort.
“They’re like Vans or Crocs or Wellington boots,” Barney's creative ambassador Simon Doonan explained back in February. “They’re a classic shoe, every chick has a pair of Uggs, and if she says she doesn’t, she’s lying, because they’re very comfortable and they’re very warm.”
