Gal Gadot cast as Wonder Woman for 'Batman vs. Superman'

The Israeli-born actress beat out Olga Kurylenko and Elodie Yung for the role.

Dec.4 (UPI) -- Israeli-born actress Gal Gador has been cast to play Wonder Woman in the follow-up to Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman.

“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character," said director Zack Snyder.

Gadot {beat out Olga Kurylenko: "http://www.upi.com/blog/2013/11/08/Will-Olga-Kurylenko-be-the-next-Wonder-Woman/4521383925990/?ilink=1" target="_blank" title="Will Olga Kurylenko be the next Wonder Woman?"} and Elodie Yung for the role.

The Fast and Furious 6 star will join Henry Cavill, who will reprise his role as Superman, and Ben Affleck,who will play Batman.

Batman vs. Superman is expected to hit theaters on July 17, 2015.
