iPad Air marked as new, but was full of someone's stuff

Dec. 3 (UPI) -- A woman was thrilled to unwrap her new iPad Air bought at a Target sale on Black Friday, but was shocked to find her tablet already filled with someone else's pictures, phone numbers and information.

"A complete schedule that was on the calendar there," said Robin Crowley, of Camridge, Ontario. "There was three pages of apps that she had obviously added."

“If I were her I would be pretty upset,” she said. “I also think if it got into the wrong hands that could be dangerous.”

But while Crowley thinks the device may have belonged to a woman in California, she also noted the box had a "demo" sticker on it, meaning all those photos and personal data might have been the preloaded stock content loaded onto the iPad for in-store display.

“The privacy of our guests is of paramount importance and this is the first time we have heard of this type of event," Target said in a statement. "We are investigating it with our partners at Apple and are happy to keep you posted as we learn more.”

As for Crowley, she says she plans to take her device back to the store in the hopes she can get one that's actually new.

"I’m going to go to Target and see about returning it and see if I can get a brand new one," she said. "Because as far as I’m concerned, that’s not brand new.”
