Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Henry Cavill thinks Ben Affleck will be "fantastic" as Bruce Wayne in the duo's highly anticipated Man of Steel sequel.

The 41-year-old Oscar winner was blasted by fans and critics after he was chosen to play Batman in the crossover film tentatively titled Batman vs. Superman, but Cavill seems certain that the studio made the right choice.

"I'm sure he'll be fantastic, above all else, and as a filmmaker he's got his own style, you know, he's not copying anyone else. And he's also sort of been tenacious in his career," Cavill told Total Film.

"He's had ups followed by downs and now he's very up again and I think that requires and shows a very special strength of character, and it's something which I enjoy working with because jobs like this require a strength of character. They require a dedication to the work and a belief in oneself and Ben has that, clearly."

Director Zack Snyder has not revealed any details about the film's plot, but E! News suspects it will feature the super heroes from the League of Justice and that Wonder Woman might make an appearance.

Rumor has it that Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston will also star in the flick as Lex Luthor.

Batman vs. Superman is expected to hit theaters on July 17, 2015.
