Darth Vader selfie kicks off Star Wars Instagram

One of the greatest movie villains of all time has just joined the popular image sharing network.

Dec. 3 (UPI) -- There has been a great disruption in the Force: Darth Vader has joined Instagram.

The masked villain of the Empire kicked off the Star Wars franchise's brand new account with a selfie -- using the rear camera, no less! -- after apparently taking out a hallway full of stormtroopers.

Less than 24 hours after the playful pic appeared, Vader earned more than 26 thousand likes and nearly 100,000 followers.

The account followed up Vader's selfie with a #Latergram-tagged image of one with him battling Luke Skywalker in a behind-the-scenes moment.

Star Wars' appearance on Instagram is likely advance marketing for the new set of sequels, beginning with Episode VII, due out in December 2015.
