Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Former rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight was mistakenly pulled over by Los Angeles police, who had pulled their guns, thinking he was an assault suspect.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ police had received report of an assault that took place Friday afternoon.

Police stopped Knight while he was driving in his vehicle because the description of the suspect matched the music producer's appearance. Upon pulling him over, police jumped out of the cruisers and drew their weapons before realizing it was a case of mistaken identity.

Knight agreed to go to the police station to explain his innocence before he was released. Police believe the assault report may have been a hoax.

Sources told TMZ Knight is considering filing a lawsuit against the Los Angeles Police Department.
