Carrie Underwood on 'Sound of Music' role: 'I know I'm not Julie Andrews'

Carrie Underwood knows she has big shoes to fill in the forthcoming remake of the "Sound of Music."

Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Carrie Underwood is under attack by Julie Andrews fans who claim the American Idol winner is not fit to play Maria in the upcoming live remake of the Sound of Music which will air on NBC in December.

"I get hate Tweets and stuff like, 'You're not Julie Andrews!'" the Idol alumn told Entertainment Weekly. "I know I'm not Julie Nobody is and I would never pretend that I was … I know my place."

But Andrews herself has shown support for Underwood as her successor even adding she is "a fan," of the singer.

"Fifty years later, it's time somebody had another crack at it," the 78-year-old told Zap2it. "I had the best time of my life doing it, and it did wonderful things for me. I think it's great that it's being done again, but doing it live must be so daunting Carrie."

The 30-year-old singer will be joined by by True Blood's Stephen Moyer and Private Practice star Audra McDonald in the live three-hour special that will air Dec. 5 at 8/7c on NBC.
