Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Jennifer Lopez belatedly honored Cuban-born salsa great Celia Cruz, who passed away in 2003, with a high-energy performance at the American Music Awards Sunday night.

The 44-year-old singer and actress' tribute included three costume changes, a stage full of dancers and a lift from Dancing With the Stars pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

"Thank you everyone! Yesterday was beautiful and incredible on so many levels!!!" Lopez tweeted Monday.

"THAT just happened! #AMAs @JLo is EN FUEGO!!!" Chmerkovskiy tweeted.

Known as the "Queen of Salsa," Cruz recorded 23 gold albums and won seven Grammy Awards.
