The so-called Verrückt slide (German for "insane") is under construction at Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark. Set to open May 23, thrill-seekers will first walk 264 steps to the top of the tower, before tunneling down the slide in four-person inflatable rafts capped off by a five-story hill.
Though officials have promised that the the Verrückt's proportions will exceeds the current record holder, Brazil's 134.5-foot tall, 62.5 mph "Insano," they have yet to release size and speed specifications.
“To ensure the record-holding statistics of this new extreme attraction, we are not going to release final height and scope of the project until we are ready to welcome our first guests,” Schlitterbahn co-owner Jeff Henry said in a statement. “This new MEG-A-BLASTER speed-slide is going to wow our guests and is going to be a game changer for our industry. Our greatest challenge will be to find thrill seekers brave enough to ride.”
