Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Russell Crowe last appeared in Man of Steel, just one of a slew of superhero films that have dominated box offices for several years. But Crowe and director Darren Aronofsky reached back thousands of years for a hero of the Old Testament variety.

The trailer for Noah, in which Crowe learns from Anthony Hopkins' Methuselah that the world is coming to an end, hit the web Thursday. With visions of the end of days plaguing him, Noah sets about building his ark, the vessel meant to carry his family and a horde of beasts over the flood that destroys the rest of the world.
