Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Jake Gyllenhaal is already looking pretty gaunt these days -- the 32-year-old actor reportedly lost 20 pounds to play a "hungry" crime reporter in the upcoming Dan Gilroy film, Nightcrawler.

Now, Gyllenhaal's commitment to the film landed him in the emergency room.

While filming an intense scene in Los Angeles Wednesday morning, the actor banged his hands into a mirror, which shattered and cut him. Gyllenhaal went to the ER where he received stitches.

Jake flipped out," a source from the set told People. "His character was looking into a mirror during the scene and punched the mirror in anger and broke it, cutting himself so bad he had to be taken to a hospital."

"The scene was emotionally charged and his character was talking into a mirror and he got so into it, he banged his hands against the mirror and it broke and cut him," another source said. "It was all the scene and not because he was mad about anything else."
