Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Celebrities presumably have managers and publicists who are meant to warn them against offensive behavior, but no one told Julianne Hough not to attend a Halloween party in blackface -- except Isla Fisher.
A source recently told Us Weekly that the 37-year-old Australian actress "was mortified" by Hough's Orange is the New Black costume, in which she donned an orange prison jumpsuit and blackface to portray the Netflix series' Crazy Eyes character.
Fisher's rep denied the account, but Us Weekly's source said the Great Gatsby star told Hough to remove the makeup before anyone took photos.
Unfortunately for Hough, photos did surface, and she took to Twitter to apologize.
"I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New Black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created," Hough said in a statement. "It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize."
