Nov. 13 (UPI) --
Amid all the promotion for Hunger Games: Catching Fire
, which hits theaters next week, Summit Entertainment has released its own adaptation of a swashbuckling young-adult novel set in a post-apocalyptic future.
Divergent, based on the first installment of Veronica Roth's YA trilogy, stars Shailene Woodley as Tris Pryor, a 16-year-old girl who lives in a dystopian Chicago organized by groups called factions. Tris must choose whether to stick with her family's faction -- one that values selflessness and humility -- or to move into another more suited to her personality.
Tris soon realizes that she's "Divergent," a rare person who doesn't fit into any of the prescribed categories.
Ashley Judd plays Woodley's mother, Kate Winslet plays cunning villainess Jeanine Matthews, while Theo James plays her handsome instructor.
Divergent hits theaters March 21.
