Nov. 12 (UPI) -- The Bay Area Rapid Transit’s Richmond line suffered major delays Tuesday morning after a 16-year-old high school student was fatally hit by an oncoming train.

Officials said that Fausto Delgado, a junior at El Cerrito High School, was killed on the tracks at El Cerrito del Norte station.

Though the circumstances of his death are still under investigation, authorities believe it was a suicide.

"He was very well-loved," said a rep for the West Contra Costa Unified School District. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. We're doing everything we can to make sure that the students get the help that they need, as well as the family."

School officials said students would have access to grief counselors in the wake of Delgado's death.

Two people, who were believed to have committed suicide, also died on the BART tracks back in June.
