Jofi Joseph, a director in the non-proliferation section of the National Security Staff at the White House, ran @natsecwonk and could have used internal administration information in his popular feed. Joseph has been tweeting insults and accusations at foreign policy officials for more than two years.
Joseph may also run other feeds including @dchobbyist, which was locked earlier this week after a barrage of negative attention.
Through @natsecwonk, Joseph criticized policies of people at the White House and the State Department insulted them specifically, including former National Security Advisor Tom Donilon, Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes and Secretary of State John Kerry.
“I'm a fan of Obama, but his continuing reliance and dependence upon a vacuous cipher like Valerie Jarrett concerns me,” he once tweeted.
"Growing problem for the Administration — too many 1st term holdovers not getting the hint that it's time to move on and get the [expletive] out,” he noted.
The insults went beyond those he worked with, though, and extended to GOP figureheads, Hill staffers and journalists.
“So when will someone do us the favor of getting rid of Sarah Palin and the rest of her white trash family? What utter useless garbage .... ,” he tweeted in October 2012.
"@MiekeEoyang Come on, I expected better of you. @jrubinblogger is CRAZY unhinged while @noonanjo is an overweight paid Romney shill,” he tweeted, mentioning Washington Post conservative blogger Jen Rubin and Romney campaign national security staffer John Noonan.
A White House spokesman confirmed that Joseph no longer works there but declined further comment.
Calling it a "privilege" to serve the President, Joseph said he now regrets "violating the trust and confidence placed in me."
“What started out as an intended parody account of DC culture developed over time into a series of inappropriate and mean-spirited comments. I bear complete responsibility for this affair and I sincerely apologize to everyone I insulted.”
