According to the Detroit Free Press, white's popularity is up 3 percent from last year -- now at 25 percent around the world -- while 1 out of every 4 car buyers picked white. Silver and black tied for second most popular car colors at 18 percent.
White tops the list in North America, Europe and Asia, while South America prefers silver.
About 21 percent of the cars in North America or white, PPG's date revealed, while 19 percent are black, 17 percent are gray, and 15 percent are silver.
Cindy Niekamp, PPG's senior vice president of automotive coatings, said that white is often popular because it doesn't show as much dirt and because Americans link it to their iPhones and iPads.
"It's a clean look consumers are starting to link white with technology," Niekamp told WXYZ.
