The Work Bitch singer has a two-year residency at Planet Hollywood for her "Britney: Piece of Me" shows, and will make about $15 million per year for the concert series.
“Britney does not sing. She is being paid a lot of money to lip-sync,” a source said last month.
“She hasn’t sung live for a couple of years,” said the source. “If the crowd thinks they are being cheated then there is likely to be an uproar, but then again look at the success of Cirque du Soleil’s Michael Jackson shows. The performers in that production don’t sing live, and it has been a runaway success.”
This week, another source leaked a list of canned answers for Planet Hollywood employees to use if asked about specifics -- including a response to anyone who asks if Spears will actually be singing in the show.
“Yes! She will be singing live!” “Certainly she will be singing live!” “Yes, all vocals will be live!” “No lip syncing will happen at the show,” the sheet states. A similar answer is provided for anyone who asks whether there will be a live band.
Later in the memo, though, a "special notes" section contradicts those answers.
“All vocals will be prerecorded,” it says. The “live band... will be prerecorded also.”
This is not the first time she has been accused of phoning in her concerts. A 2009 video with more than one million views shows what the uploader says is an isolated track of Spears, who barely sings along to the track while performing the elaborate dance numbers she has become known for.
Planet Hollywood employees are also discouraged from elaborating on any answer or straying from the script. They were also asked not to share the document outside the venue's staff.
A rep for Spears said, “Britney will be singing. As stated before, she is in vocal training -- has been for months.”
