(UPI) -- A new report has given men the perfect excuse to get out of the house and go meet up with their friends -- it’s good for their health.
Professor Robin Dunbar of Oxford University claims that “talking with mates” on a daily basis is good but that men need to meet up with their friends at least twice a week and “do stuff” in order to be truly healthy.
He recommends activities like going to a bar for a beer or playing football or rugby.
According to Dunbar, men who maintain social groups are healthier and recover from illness more quickly.
“Bonds can be formed through a range of activities from team sports to male banter -- or simply having a pint with your pals on a Friday night. However, the key to maintaining strong friendships is to meet up twice a week and do stuff with the four people closest to you,” Dunbar said
The professor’s report was commissioned by Guinness, maker of the famous Irish dry stout that has become one of the most popular beers worldwide.
“When guys get together physically and more frequently with their mates, their friendships become stronger, better and a richer life results,” said Stephen O’Kelly of Guinness.
Humorist Danny Wallace seems pleased with Dunbar’s findings. “Science is telling us to have more fun together and do more stuff. This is great news, for we must obey science,” he said.
