(UPI) -- Steven Patrick Morrissey the British singer and lyricist known only by his last name has issued a statement denying rumors that he is homosexual.

Speculation that the former Smiths vocalist was gay began after he admitted to having been in a two-year relationship with a man in his recently released autobiography, Autobiography. For Morrissey, however, the detailed account of his relationship with Jake Owen Walters does not make him homosexual.

"Unfortunately, I am not homosexual," he wrote on a fan site. "I am humasexual. I am attracted to humans. But, of course, not many.

In Autobiography, Morrisey describes his relationship with Walters as his first serious relationship and the moment when "the eternal 'I' became a 'we.'"

The 54-year-old singer also wrote about his disinterest in girls and the time when he considered the "unthinkable" with "lifetime constant" Tina Dehghani.

"Tina and I discuss the unthinkable act of producing a mewling miniature monster. Had I ever previously known such a thought?" he wrote.
